If you are in the text tool and want to get out of it, because you cannot do some other things while it is selected (eg. make a new text layer, save a file), I usually just click on the Move tool and then click back on the text tool if I want the new text to be on a different layer. Is there another easier way to do this?

Press the enter key (on the numeric keypad)

At least it works on my Mac…
