How do we set the Pixel Aspect Ratio in CS2 so that the default is to see tiff images in the "square" format required to view a scanned image in its original proportions?

I have seen others ask about this in various ways. I have scanned the same image on two different types of scanners and opened the file in CS2 and a previous version of photoshop. The issue for us seems to be the default setting in CS2 as the file is correct in the previous version of photoshop. The scanner settings do not matter.

We know how to manually adjust the Ratio once the image is open, that’s easy, but it seems like we should be able to set up that machine to always see the pixel aspect ratio as square as its default setting.

Are you scanning in bitmap mode?

Most likely your scanner software is saving the data in a FAX format that is supposed to be 2:1 aspect ratio and not including any data to say that it’s not 2:1.

Thank-you Chris but no.

We have a large format Xerox 8825 Scanner/Plotter system and a Cannon color copier running a fiery program. We are a professional architectural illustration office and we have been scanning and printing images in this fashion for some time. The problem occurs when scanning images as black and white tiff images only.

Furthermore the problem only occurs on the machines with the new version of CS2. our older photoshop machines operate as they always have when opening the same files. I know other Cs2 using offices with the same issues with CS2

Either you’ve set those machines to default to a certain aspect ratio, or the files say they have a non square aspect ratio.

Those are the only things that could do it.

And the default is square pixels.

And there are common problems with scanner software producing bitmap (Black and White) images in TIFF with FAX encoding and failing to specify the correct aspect ratio.

So, I don’t know what you’re saying no to — it still sounds like my first message was 100% correct.
