I wanted to edit some images sent to me on a CD. When trying to ‘save as’ I was informed I did not have permission to open the file and to see the owner to get permission to open the file. I noticed on the browser there was a lock on each image. Is this some sort of default setting that can be turned off and if it isn’t how do I turn it off. This occurred on my own images in my image cd library. Is this something that is a new feature in PS7?

Try copying the file to your hard drive first, then, in Windows Explorer right click on it and change its properties: uncheck the Read Only box.

Then try to open it in PS and save it.

I do beleive that XP will turn of write protection for you aswell, Im sure i set that preference the other day, not 100% sure though.

Just to add to YrbkMgr, if you have many images write protected, you can choose to change thema ll at once, you dont have to do them indervidualy.

Yrbk Mgr Thank you for your idea. I didn’t quite do it the way you suggested, but I did use Window Explorer. I selected the files on the cd and copied them to a new file on my hard drive. Worked perfectly.

Glad to hear it is sorted Roseanne. I’m on Win98, so one must change the properties of the files. As TDO says above, what happened was that XP toggled the Read-Only bit off for you.
