Convert .psd to another format?

Hi,

I don’t have Photoshop and my client wants me to work on his .psd brochure files. Editing text, etc. I tried importing/converting through Illustrator, Corel Draw, etc. but it converts everything to an image. Does anyone know if it’s possible to bring over the text as text?

If the client did the entire thing in Photoshop, then the text is embedded, probably either as a layer in a graphic or as a discrete graphic file (on a transparent background) and can’t be directly exported.
