Hey all

I upgraded to PS CS and it pops-up this message I
cannot understand:

"Could not load the MMXcore Routines module
because it does not work with this version of
Photoshop."

What is the problem with this and what can or
should I do about it?

Sincerely,
Alex

"Could not load the MMXcore Routines module

Photoshop."

Here is the message in English:

"You are running Photoshop on a Pentium processor. The Pentium processor in your computer has a set of special computer instructions called MMX extensions. These special instructions can make certain kinds of programs, like Photoshop, run faster.

Photoshop uses a plug-in to enable the ability to use these special MMX processor instructions. You are running Photoshop CS. You have an MMX plug-in that was written to work with an older version of Photoshop, like Photoshop 6 or Photoshop 7. Plug-ins written for older versions of Photoshop don’t work with Photoshop CS."

If you have a legitimate, purchased copy of Photoshop, you can fix this error by reinstalling Photoshop. It will re-install the correct MMX plugin. If you got an illegal bootleg copy from a warez site–well, whatever criminal idiot uploaded it, screwed it up.

Right on man thanks! It’s legit, I promise. I think I
I screwed it up by pointing CS to PS 7’s plugin folder.
If I’m right I think Adobe should write program that
will define the differences, new from old plugins,
so it will un-include the old ones from use.

Thank you for your very great help!

Sincerely,
Alex

Are you using PS 7 plugins or plugin folders in CS?

Different MMXCore.8BX in CS; and CS Plugins Extensions folder is in a different place in the plugin folder hierarchy so you might have two MMXCore files if you are bringing older plugins into CS.

Thanks, I fixed it all as described in my reply to Tacit. Now all works well except the AutoFX plugins.

You installed an older version of the MMXCore routines (like from Photoshop 7).

Don’t do that. The Photoshop extension plugins are very version specific.
