Blue cast in outdoor daylight pix: does this make sense? What camera settings would cause this (white balance, etc.) assuming it is full automatic mode?

Bruce,

What model of camera is it? What are you seeing it in? PS? Picture and Fax viewer? The camera itself? All three?
Try manually altering the white balance to reflect the ambient outdoor lighting conditions, sunlight, overcast, cloudy etc., and see if the problem persists.
If you only see it in PS it could be a monitor calibration issue.

Camera is a Fuji A400. I see the cast in all image editing and viewing programs including PS CS2. The odd thing is, I think this may hve happened while downloading to the computer (download was by taking xD card out and inserting in USB card reader) – I was checking the pictures during the day and didn’t see any cast then. Also, not all pictures were affected.

Bruce,
How old is your monitor, if you are seeing a blue shift in all the above apps it is unlikely to be a calibration problem in one (PS) Could you view the images on another PC to see if the shift is still there? Other things to try;
Are you shooting outdoor on an "indoor" scene setting? If you think it may have been caused when you downloaded them via a card reader, what do they look like when you download via the camera? How old is the xD card? You could try taking a picture of a "white" card in outdoor, daylight conditions, with different white balance settings and see if the problem persists.
You could be seeing it on some on not all if the lighting angle is different between the exposures but that doesn’t explain why you are.
