I am looking to upgrading to my current system to an to an HP system running an Intel® Core™2 Duo desktop processor E6400 with 2 processing cores, 1066MHz system bus, 2MB L2 cache and 2.13GHz processor speed per core 2GB PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM for multitasking power, which is expandable to 8GB.

Was wondering if anyone was running CS2 using the new Intel core 2 duo processor? If so did you run into any problems? Since ram is cheap at the current I was also looking to increase to 4GB.

Thanks,

Stu

CS2 is not really multithreaded, maybe a few mysterious processes. CS2 responds to CPU horsepower so if this represents a significant step up from what you have now you may be able to time the difference with a stopwatch.
Rumors are the next PS version will have real multithreading so a dual core processor could be a real boon depending on how the program is structured. Be sure your HP has a PCI-e videocard, not the utterly worthless onboard video.
Also HP/Compaq/Dell/Gateway notoriously ship with power supplies that are simply inadequate, one reason they rely on motherboard based video. You cannot always plug an aftermarket power supply into their motherboards: Dell (and I believe the others) makes proprietary and incompatible changes from the standard connections.
If you are knowledeable there are many reliable vendors that can construct a machine with your specifications, better components and an identical warranty at an equal or lower price.
Memory is not so cheap-even the FTC has been probing price gouging-and despite what you read more is not always better, although it should be. Although DDR and DDR2 mobos may have four RAM slots once you put additional ram sticks in the second two slots, even if they are identical to the primary ram sticks, many mobos start showing random memory errors, even random freezes.
I would recommend you start with two 1 gb ram sticks and expand only if you really need to.
