Hi,

Friend’s problem:

I have a lot of Photographs on disks that have dates on them. Do you have an idea how to remove them?

Seems like a tedious job but doable. Any suggestions appreciated.

Best,

Conrad

Are the dates part of the file names? If so, that’s doable but tedious if you want to keep the remainder of the name intact. Or, are you referring to the date "created/modified" issue?

I think he means that the dates are actually imprinted in the image pixels, as many P&S film cameras can do. Removing them would, indeed, be tedious.

Maybe he photographs his dates because they will never go out with him again.

Ahh, you may be right – I hadn’t thought of that. If so, the word that comes to mind is "ugly."

Easy with perl, VBScript, maybe even Windows command prompt. But it’s hard to give a specific answer when people ask such vague questions.

We don’t even know the OS…I think Conrad uses a Mac, but I dunno about his friend.

Friend uses a PC. Conrad has both platforms.

They you are in deep s…!

You can try to use scratch removers or healing brushes but, depending on the size of the date information, there will be a lot of manual work.

I would use the rubber stamp to copy adjacent areas over the date. As Michael says, it would be tedious.

It’s interesting that there is one thread asking how to add the dates and this thread asking how to remove them. To my mind, dates never belong on the picture – on the back or in the EXIF, yes, but not on the front. They’re ugly and draw your attention from the picture.

You can try healing brush or clone, as others have said, or you could buy a filter that will do it.
Alienskin has a set of filters called Image Doctor. The scratch remover filter will remove dates, or even a pondful of ducks.

so… $100 us, or some sweat. I’m cheap. I’d do it by hand.
