Paste Image To Power Point

I have an image copied from a Textbook that I want to paste into Power Point. The image is a line drawing and when I copy it shows a white background, a white square, in the Power Point slide. How can I make the background transparent so that the image shows my PPT background?

I have tried playing with layers but can not figure it out. Any advice to steer me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

In PowerPoint, Right-click on the image and pick "Show Picture Toolbar" from the list if it isn’t already. Using the far right tool, "Set Transparency Color," click on the white area of the image.

Thank you for replying. I did as you said however the image is now jagged and distorted and the text is impossible to read. Sorry to ask, any further suggestions. The image is in GIF format.

Is your image a monochrome bitmap or a greyscale? If it is the former, convert it to greyscale, save as a JPEG and import into PP.

Randall,
Try saving the photoshop file as a ,GIF and inserting it. That should work.
