Hi,
I’ve just got Photoshop CS, tried to install it on my Dell desktop (Dimension 1100; Intel Celeron D processor 325 2.53GHz, 1.00 Gb RAM; 53GB of 80 free;
Windows XP), it appears to install so I open it and it loads fonts, etc, etc on that acknowledgements screen, then that screen disappears and it’s "ready to go", all the palettes and tools and layers boxes are

there… then I click on the menu bar or try to do anything and all the

tool boxes go white and it’s non-responsive, and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del

it to end task. Computer is fine thereafter and pointer doesn’t freeze at any point. Have uninstalled and reinstalled – lots! I have tried installing with everything turned off: no virus checker, no firewall, everything MSConfig-ed to be off; installing from desktop no help, making sure to delete preference file each time no help. So tried installing it on my shitty old laptop (Packard Bell iGo; Windows XP) – it goes on fine! Works a treat. The laptop is old and slow but has been

reformatted and wiped of everything bar Word and a few other things. The Dell desktop has various applications on, but is only two months old and certainly isn’t choked up with odd programs. Basically just has

what it came with. Has Corel Photo Album and Photo Shop pre-installed, but not really used them. The ImageReady that came with CS works fine on the Dell desktop.
WHAT CAN I DO?! I need to hand my PhD thesis in in a month – I need Photoshop! :'(
Any help… anyone? I would be grateful like you could not even believe!
Cheers, Sally 🙂

Sally,

The only problem I have ever heard of regarding Dells and PS was where the keyboard was …….Welsh! Seriously!

If you look in Control Panel>Adminastrative Tools>Event Viewer>Application and System logs. Look for red circles with a white cross apertaining to PS. It should contain some error codes which you can search for on Google.

Sally,

Welsh spellchecking, now there’s an oxymoron;)
I bet you thought I was joking re the keyboard 😉 Go to Control Panel>Regional and Language Options> Languages>Text services etc., and click on details and check your keyboard language. If it is Welsh click on it and hit remove. Obviously, you need to have at least one other language in there, so click on the Add button and choose your language of choice from the drop down list (you’re not in Wales by any chance are you? ;)) Regards
