Wrapping Text inside a Shape

I have been trying to wrap text inside a closed shape inside PSCS2. I can create a closed shape and click inside of it to type inside of the shape, but when the text fills up the first line inside the shape, it doesn’t wrap around to the next line. Instead, any text past the space in the shape for the first line is invisible.

Do you have any idea what the problem is?

First reset your text tool in case there are some odd settings carried over from a previous session.

Then make a selection of the closed shape and convert it to a work path.

Then select the type tool and hover it over the path until the cursor changes. Then type away. Your text will stay inside the path.

Thanks for all the help – surprisingly, the next day Photoshop started working. Magic? However, I can’t wrap text inside a symbol like phi: Φ,

without the two semi-circles becoming part of the text path. Is there any way to get around this?

What part of the phi do you want the text in: the white space, or the whole circle. The solution here is a layer (in either case) with a simple shape that you can use to load the text into.

I would like to wrap the text inside the gray area, which seems impossible since when I try to, the white part becomes part of the text path also.

By "wrap" do you mean "word-wrap" as in John’s example, or that you want a single line of text to follow the curvature of the graphic?
