Photoshop CS2, Windows XP.
Photoshop will NOT allow me to assign a color to type.
All boxes that should show the color display a question mark no matter what I do in the picker. Thanks.

A question mark in the icon usually means that two items of different colors are selected.

Another mistake I am always making is to try and apply color to an image in RGB mode.

Nope, my test has only one layer of type, and it’s CMYK. I’ve never seen this before.

Could be time for the "three fingered salute".

Try deleting the Preferences file. You will find "how to" in the FAQs. A corrupt Prefs file – caused by a crash or bad shut-down – can wreak all sorts of havoc!.
