I work for a computer vendor. One of my customers bought a machine (athlon x2 4800 4 gbs of mem) and is attempting to open a 3GB file from DVD the machine reboots when attempting to open the file. I have replaced almost every component in the machine attempting to get this to work it keeps rebooting. If I download the file to the hard drive it works fine and opens okay. The customer is admit about wanting to open the file from the DVD and states that a friend can do it on his machine. Do anyone have any advise/things to try?

All I can say is I always find things happen better when I copy a large file (on a number of files) to the local drive first, then open them from there. Much the same as when working across a network.

How much RAM does the box have, and what are its virtual memory settings? How much free space is there on the disk holding the temp directory (usually C:) and the PS scratch file?

If the machine is re-booting, I would suspect a driver as you have ruled out hardware problems.

After a long night of troubleshooting I have found the culprit. The system was powered by a 500w power supply. I hooked a 600w power supply up and the system is now working! Thanks for everyone’s help!
