How do I resize a selection made with the elliptical marquee tool? I can reposition it, but I can’t figure out how to resize it.

Thanks!

Right Click and you’ll see a contextual menu appear.

Select "Transform Selection…"

Neither of those work – I want to resize the marquee so that I am selecting a different area, not resizing the existing selection – does that make sense? Ctrl T and Transform resize the selection as it already exists. You’d think this would be a fairly simple thing…

I just told you how to do what you want to do.

Alternately, go to Select—»Transform Selection

The contextual menu will only display "Transform Selection" if you still have one of the Marquee Tools or one of the Lasso Tools or the Crop Tool selected in the Toolbox.

Ctrl T does not work., Modify is not an available option, and in my version of CS2, when I hit File > Transform, there is no option for "transform selection. Crtl T. allows me to resize what I have selected, but not the selection area independent of what I have selected, so I can select a smaller or larger area before transforming (or cropping) it. Any other ideas?

I quit.

I’ve told you how.

Reread this entire thread again.

Tina,

Phosphor’s right, but what you may be missing is this:

Make your selection, then use Select|Transform Selection from the menu. From there, you can resize and move the selection.

For some reason, it wouldn’t work. I closed the file and opened it again, and then it would work. So, I’m not a dumbell, and I can read, and thanks for your help!

If you have an area already selected, Phosphor was absolutely correct when he told you to Right Click on the picture and you’ll see a contextual menu appear.. then Select "Transform Selection" (NOT free transform… free transform will select the portion of the picture within the marquee, just as Crtl T does)… after you select "Transform Selection" then when you right click again you have the choice of selecting free transform to adjust the marquee itself..

The same procedure also applies to the alternative when Phosphor said to go to the top menu and go to Select—
