When you do a Canvas Size adjusment, is there any way to change the Anchor setting without using the mouse? I’m needing to do this a lot lately, and having a quick keyboard shortcut for that would be a major time saver. I was thinking it would be some combination involving the arrow keys or the keypad, but if such a feature exists, I can’t find it. (Using PS7, by the way. If the newer versions added this feature, let me know.)

The only way to work through that as I can tell is to create an action and assign it a keyboard shortcut.

That means recording your canvas size operations entirely, and accepting the result. Then in the actions palette, make sure that the dialog box is enabled so that when you press the hotkey, it will display the canvas size dialog box with your previously recorded settings.

Unfortunately, that would require me to make not 1 but 9 separate actions, one for each anchor position. Given the limited number of available keyboard shortcuts for actions, this would be quite impractical. (Even with CS’s customizable keyboard shortcuts, there aren’t that many more available, a fact that dismayed me when I played around with it on someone else’s machine.) It’d be really nice if there were some way to just use the keypad for that, since it’s already 9 boxes in a square, just like the anchor setting. (I use the numbers on the top of the keyboard for actually typing in numbers, so there’d be no conflict.) I wonder if there’s a suggestion box where one could make such a request for future versions? (Not that I’ve ever once had anyone take one of my suggestions on any other wishlist I’ve ever posted to…)

No conflict for you I use the numeric keypad to type numbers all the time. UI designers have to think of everyone.

That’s what NumLock is for. Or we could just use the arrow keys instead. There are certainly ways around this.

Thanks, I’ll try posting it – not that I expect it to do any good. I really doubt they actually read those…

Darrel. I sympathize with you.

I’m a keyboard fan too (anything to reduce the amount of time chasing that bloody rat around the desk!)

Alt+I+S then TAB [enter width] TAB [enter height] then you’ve got to resort to the mouse – pen in my case – to hit the required anchor point.

However, I’m realistic enough to realize that there are a lot more pressing "features" which need to be addressed, and that I (and now you too) would be in the minority requiring such a facility.

Chris.

All too familiar. I have little shortcuts like that for almost everything I do – Alt+L+F = Flatten Image, Alt+I+A+C = Brightness/Contrast, Alt+E+A+H/V = Flip Horizontal/Vertical, etc. (One of my major reasons for favoring PC over Mac – being able to access those menus via keyboard.) If it were up to me, I’d use the mouse only for directly manipulating the image, and keyboard for everything else. It’s much faster. Just every now and then I run into these little issues like this where there’s no other option…
