I was running Photoshop CS and just upgraded to CS2. Instead of CS being overwritten or updated an entire new program was installed and I now have CS and CS2 both on my computer. Each can be run separately. Is this normal? Am I supposed to uninstall CS? Did I install the upgrade wrong? They are both under the same program folder. Has anyone else run into this. I’ve tried to contact technical support but that’s a joke.

That’s how Adobe upgrades work. They are completely new standalone products.

The only thing that makes me a bit nervous is that you said:

They are both under the same program folder.

I hope you meant Adobe/Photoshop CS and Adobe/Photoshop CS2.

If they’re both really in the same folder, you’re going to have big problems.

The default install is to have two seperate Photoshop directories (sorry, folders) in the Program Files\Adobe folder.

You’re probaly find that you’ll need to impport any third-party plugins and such into the new version, unless you defined an external seperate Plugins folder outside of the main Photoshop install.

In that case, you just set the additional Plugins folder to the one you use for third party plugins.

Thank you for your input. What I meant was that each program is in a separate folder under the Adobe folder, along with folders for Adobe Bridge, Utilites, etc. Is it alright to uninstall CS or will elements be unistalled that CS2 requires? It is a fairly large program and I hate to use up the harddrive space if it’s not required.
Thanks for your help.

Yes, it’s safe to uninstall CS. Just make sure to specify (when asked) not to delete shared files.

Personally Joanne, I would leave CS(1) in place. It is always handy to have a previous version on hand should it ever be needed. As for the space it takes, I regularly work on files which are many times bigger.

HD space is so cheap now – and if your system drive is so full that 200MB makes a difference, it really is time to invents in another one.

Hi again

I had posted this question on another website because I was concerned with the 2 gig file at the end of the website.

It was explained to me that this was left over from CS and using bridge I don’t need the file browser. I did trash the file browser and cs2 works fine with all the Thmnails and metadata.
I see no reason to keep the CS anymore and want to find the correct way to unintall. I have a powermac g5 10.7.4

———————————————————— ———— Can anyone explain what the Adobe file browser is and what happens if I delete all the files in here.

I am using PSCS2

The path is….. User/Library/Application Support/Adobe/File Browser/PhotoshopCS/

In the flie PhotoshopCS there is almost 2 gigs of files.

Many files I regognize the file names and many are just numbers.
1.What happens if I delete all thses files?
2. Do I need all thses files

Dick,

Don’t delete the files manually – that is not how you de-install an application. If you delete files like that, you’ll more than likely cause yourself all sorts of problems.

The de-installation is done through the operating system.

1) Go to the Control Panel in the Start Menu (assuming you are running Windows XP).

2) Click on the Add or Remove Programs icon. This will give you a list of your currently installed programs.

3) Select the version of Adobe Photoshop you want to de-install. It will ask you if you want to remove shared files – say NO.

Wrong forum Dick. The Mac people live a little further up the corridor. They will be able to tell you the correct way to uninstall on those strange sorry, fine, machines. 😉

Upgrade Issues to CS2 from CS:

When I upgrade, what files/folders which are in CS do I need to save to transfer to CS?

I have some plug ins, some actions, and a printer preferences page. Where do I find these in my comuputer to save them to a folder in order to transfer to CS2?

Tnx.

Libby,

Where do I find these in my comuputer<<

Plugins will be in one of the sub-folders of the Plugins folder – which ones depend upon which plugins.

If your actions have been saved to an Action Set (.atn) they will be wherever YOU saved them (probably in /Presets/Photoshop Actions/ folder if you accepted defaults) If you haven’t saved them from the Actions Palette you will need to do so.

I think you will have to just re-do your printer set-up.
