I gave up and farmed the photography out to my regular photographer with some help from a friend who is landscape designer– More expensive for the client that way, but I couldn’t find a better solution in the time available.

I would bet there’s a market for this, though. I can’t be the only one who ever needed/wanted this….. many stock photo houses have beautiful flowers, but no way to search them by variety.

There appear to be several hardcopy sources of such "field guides" to flowers and plants in general, many with full
illustration. Online guies are more limited:
http://www.fnai.org/fieldguide/
http://www.enature.com/
http://animals.about.com/cs/fieldguides/
http://www.field-guides.com/trips.htm
http://www.angelfire.com/wa/riverhouse/
http://www.mtwp.k12.pa.us/schools/schaeffer/Eco/fieldguides. html
But this doesn’t answer the question about commercial reprint possibility. Maybe the folks one some of these sites can give you a further pointer.
Please let us know what you find out, this was an interesting problem.

Good idea, and was my first stop…
unfortunately, the photos available through
them were not of an appropriate quality.

I also tried professional growers, (companies
who provide the plants to nurseries) because some
of their sites have great pics– but the licensing
arrangement for use of the images we wanted
would not be acceptable to the client.
