Using CS2 files with CS1

How can you use/convert CS2 files so that you can use them with CS1? Because apparently it wont let me. Thanks

While some options may not be available (ie smart objects), just saving them should be enough in most cases.

Of course, knowing more than "apparently it wont let me" would help us solve the problem a bit better
