When I right click on an image file and choose "Open With" and then "Photoshop", the application (Photoshop) opens, but it doesn’t load the image file that I right-clicked on.

I found a description of very similar issue on Mac-based versions in the Adobe techdocs (http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/329996.html), but not for Windows. I’m running Windows XP SP2.

I’ve looked at the Windows Registry entry for Photoshop. I can detect nothing wrong there but I doubt I’d know if something was wrong unless it reached out and smacked me in the face.

It’s an old issue with Windows and Photoshop.

Another is that doing the same with multiple files will sometimes only open a random few in Photoshop.

Curiously, my installation did not previously have the problem I described. I had exactly the same version of Photoshop on Windows XP Pro SP2 and it worked until I had catastrophic corruption of the hard drives back in April. It was time for me to upgrade hardware anyway so, before I did a low-level reformat of the corrupted hard drives, I set up a new machine.

On the new machine, I’ve had the described problem from the start. Of course, Windows updates came out even in the week or two during which I was switching machines, so one of them could be what caused the change. Or it could be that I’m now on Windows MCE.

From the way you describe it, it sounds like I should just live with it?

Len,
I’m very comfortable with modifying the Windows Registry (unfortunately). However, the instructions you provide in <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.ef85de5> are not quite applicable to my "complaint."

I do not want to create a new "Always use" behavior because using "Open with" rather than just Opening is something I prefer for many file types. Also, my registry entry does not have "\(Default)" after "\photoshp.exe" at the end of the data string.

I had previously looked at the exact Key/Value/Data you specify and thought I’d tried adding a "%1" at the end without achieving any change in "Open with" behavior, but perhaps it’s worth double checking? Or perhaps the absence of the "(Default)" is also part of the problem? I welcome your comments.

AJG,

The key is HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\comm and\

The Name is (Default)
The Type is REG_SZ
The Data is "[path_to_your_CS2_Applications]\Photoshop.exe""%1"
