I am a staudent and my dealer has told me that I qualify for an academic license for the Adobe CS design bundle. I have not used the Adobe suite before. Can someone experience tell me how the license and registration works?

I was told by my dealer that I pay for a license, and will get some CDs. I think I was told that the CDs will allow me to install online. And no printed manual is provided. I was also told that there is no difference if I purchase an academic license or a full commercial license, I will still be getting this installation CDs and no manual. Is this correct? I can’t seem to get into Adobe’s website and their sales phone line is constantly jammed up these days. I have been trying to call for about a week now.

My question is that I have a laptop which I take to classs and a desktop, and I will need the Adobe software to be installed in both for me to work on them. Is that possible if I purchase an academic license? And is this possible if I purchase the full commercial license?

I am also asking because software I purchased before always provide CDs with the full software on them. I have had my computer crashed and have to reinstall everything. How is this done if installation is online? I just want to make sure that I am making the correct decision. I am always worried about having to reinstalled as I have to do this twice before.

Thanks for any help provided.

http://www.adobe.com/uk/education/students/studentedition/el igibility.html The Acedemic version is identical to the commercial version and you can install it on both PC’s (if you do not use both simultaneously, I think, though why you would want or be able to…and how would Adobe know if you did?.)
You should be given a reg code which you inform Adobe of and they will give you an activation code to enable your use. Your "Educational Reseller" should be able to explain all you questions re this problem to you.

According to the Adobe site, one is allowed to install onto both a desktop & desktop & get both installs *"activated"* by adobe.

Adobe products now require "activation" just like the microsoft product(s), windows.

Hi, this is a reply to all replies so far …

Thanks for the info. What happens if you need to re-install, like when your hard disk crashed or something? Do you need to "activate" the software again? Or can I use the old code? I am asking because I have this experience 2 times, and one time, I need to replace my hard disk and re-intall everything.

So I gather from all your answer that the softwares are on the CDs, but I will need to "activate" it. Correct?

MH, thanks for your explanation – for some reason, I can’t get into adobe’s website. When the home page load, it always hang my IE. Do you by any chance know why??

Thanks all !

When you install PS, it gathers information regarding its installation environment and generates a code from what it finds and your registration number. This code is what is used by Adobe to supply the activation code. This information is held in the boot sector of your hard drive and is one of the reasons you cannot excede the 30 day trial periods with multiple installations or altering your system time/date or even "ghost" the drive. Also, If you make too many hardware changes over too short a time, I have known PS refuse to load because it no longer recognises its installation environment. So, if you were to lose your hard drive, you may have to re activate with Adobe. It depends on how long has passed between the first and the second activation as the activation servers are reset periodically.
So I gather from all your answer that the softwares are on the CDs, but I will need to "activate" it. Correct?

I have just tried the link I posted from the email it it connected fine. Can you get to the Adobe site? If so try doing a search in it for "educational licenece photoshop" without the quotes.
