I just got a new monitor and everything Photoshop prints is coming out green. I havn’t changed anything else. Whenever I open Photoshop, it says ‘the monitor’s profile is defective’ or something – does that have something to do with it?

Did you re-run Adobe Gamma to calibrate for the new monitor?

I did run it but the colours came out awful. It was way bright and the contrast was intense.

Adobe Gamma only realy works with CRTs. If your new monitor is an LCD try one of these free LCD Monitor calibration software solutions.

They can be downloaded from:

Thanks for the links. These ones worked substantially better, but not so much that the images are matching my green prints. I’ve changed the profiles in so many different places now I’m losing track of them. I don’t suppose there’s any way to undo the gamma changes I made in WiziWIG besides going back and guessing them, eh? It’s tough to know if my new settings are jiving with the rest of the world.

Sometimes it’s best to go right back to square one – especially after installing new hardware/software.

* Reset Photoshop’s preferences and Colour settings.

* Re-run your monitor profile (don’t forget to remove Adobe Gamma Loader from the Start-up menu when using a third party solution)

* Download the latest profiles for your printer/media combination.

A good place to spend fifteen minutes or so reading up on colour management is: <http://www.computer-darkroom.com>

Ok is there an actual way to reset the color settings in Photoshop? I went through some reading on computer dark-room and changed profiles, creating one for the monitor using WiziWYG and applying it to the working space in Photoshop. I don’t understand how to switch profiles for the actual monitor though – is the only way to get at that to run through Gamma/Wizi etc and live with what I end up with? I’m going to try hooking up a different printer/disable the new monitor to see what happens also.

Alright. I plugged in another printer and the colour is coming off fine on that one. So it must be the other one, I guess. I can’t figure out what happened to it – the ink is all full and hasn’t given me any messages.

Ok it was the stupidest thing, the printer head/nozzles were not aligned properly and magenta and cyan weren’t making it onto the paper. The timing was just bad as it happened as soon as I got the monitor. I can’t believe it. Your help did teach me a lot about colour management and got rid of that nasty error messege I kept getting in Photoshop, though. Thanks so much for your effort! 🙂
