Opening 5.5 .psd in 6.0 – some text layers might need to be…

I created some .psd files in PhotoShop 5.5 and I just installed PhotoShop 6.0. When I open one of the 5.5 .psd files in 6.0 (it’s a block of text), I get the message:

Some text layers might need to be updated before they can be used for vector based output. Do you want to update these layers now?

I’m not sure if I should update or not. I used Photoshop to create a block of text then I save to web as a .jpg.

I need to be able to edit the text files that I created in 5.5 in version 6.0.

Any suggestions please?

Happy,

There was a change to the text engine in Version 6 – if you don’t update the layer it will nag you every time you open the image. if you do update the layer, there may be small changes to the positioning.

As you just opening them and then are using SFW, there’s no problem with leaving them as they are – other than the ‘nagging’.

Hi Len,

Forgive my ignorance – what is "SFW"?
Another thing I noticed is that if I say "no" to the update, on the layers tab for that particular text layer, it shows an exclamation mark. I’m assuming that will go away if I select "update".

I don’t mean to put a damper on you being "happy" Happy Girl – but if you’ve "just installed PhotoShop 6.0", where on earth did you get it from.

Adobe havn’t sold that version since before the millenium.

Is it a legal, registered copy?
