Good evening,

I’m pulling my hair out trying to find a solution to my problem, and would appreciate some advice.

I have a jpg image of a black mount, which has a blank white area where a picture would normally be mounted. I wish to insert my pictures into this area, and save them off to seperate files. This would have the effect of all my pictures shown in this mount.

Is there an easy auto way to do this? I have considered manually pasting into, but this would take time. If i have to manually do, what would be the quickest method?

I have PSP Photoshop, and imageready. Would consider purchasing other software.

Hope someone can help
Many Thanks

Hi there,

I’m not sure why you want to use a jpeg of a black mount to add a black border to your images.

A couple of questions.

Are all of your jpegs the same size?

If they are, just create an action to resize the canvas, with black for the extension colour, by however wide you want the border to be.

Do you want to keep the picture on its own layer?

If you do, then copy the image onto its own layer and then go back to the background image and resize the canvas as above.

If your images are not all the same size, you could resize the image in the action before the step to resize the canvas.

You could then run this action using the automate/batch process to add the border to a folder of images.

If your images are not all the same size, and you want to keep them that way, a simple script could add a border in proportion to the size of the image. I could make a basic script for you that would do this for Photoshop CS or CS2.

Bye for now.

Hi George,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. The reason i wish to do this is that the border image has other areas to it (ie a space for a plaque). I have uploaded a copy of the images i wish to use to use as frames to <http://www.swat-athletic.org/frames/> – you will see two (landscape and portrait depending on image layout) and also a few sample pictures. Feel free to have a browse as an example.

The white area to the left is where i wish to auto insert numerous different pictures so that i can display them as if they are mounted. The pictures will most probably vary in size (may need cropping?), so would need shrinking down to fit that box.

I’m fairly new to photoshop, but am more than willing to have a play! My main focus is making this as easy as possible for ~100 pictures!

Many Thanks for your help

If you have Photoshop CS2, take a look at smart objects. You can replace the images in a smart object easily.

I’ve written a script that I sometimes use to do this.
