I am working with a small project with about 7 layers. One of the layers is text. A gradient from another layer is overlapping some of the text and I would like to bring the text to the topmost layer above everything else. How can I do this? Thx!

Simply click on it and drag the layer to the top of the stack, or drag the upper layers to a position below the text layer.

Ah ok. So every new layer created in effect gets placed on top of the one before it. Makes sense now that I know it. I’ll try the drag thing. Thanks!

Not always, if you only have one layer, the background, and you copy this layer, you will have one layer on top of the other in the order they were opened/created. If you then make the original background (bottom) layer active (selected) and say, insert a text layer by selecting the type tool and clicking on the image, the text layer will be inserted between the background layer and the background layer copy and would be invisible because it would be hidden by the top layer.
