I have purchased PS Upgrade to go to PS7 and am trying to Upgrade from PS 6. After running the upgrade CD I still have PS6 in addition to PS7 Upgrade. Normally an upgrade writes over the current software program and the old one is replaced, this did not happen. Can I remove PS6 or what do I do? I don’t need both taking up all the disc space….

I too vote that you exorcise 6.0 from your machine like an evil spirit from Linda Blair.

Adobe opts to not install over a previous version when doing upgrades. This is due to the fact that many professionals use these apps for their livlihood, and just perchance that there is a bug, defect or problem with the new version, you would be dead in the water without having the option to revert back to the previous version to make a deadline. It is good thinking on Adobe’s part.

Remove the old version with the caveat to NOT remove shared files.

About the only program I know of that kills the old version when you load a new one is Internet Explorer. So frustrating to web designers who would like multiple copies so they could test sites in different versions.

Some other programs will write a new version into the same directory by default, removing the old one, but usually you can bypass this by selecting a new folder. (Never do a quick install … always use custom).

Internet Explorer 2 is a single EXE. Unfortunately, if you run it, it takes over associations and won’t let go.

Fortunately, we don’t have to test for IE2 any more.
