On my previous computer (Win XP SP1 and Photoshop 7) Photoshop .psd files showed as thumbnails in Explorer.

On new computer (again Win XP SP1 but this time Photoshop CS) they just show as the generic Photoshop icon.

Anyone throw some light on what is (or is not) happening here ?

This is a feature that Adobe removed from Photoshop CS

The .dll responsible for doing so was buggy and slow, and Adobe wass either unable or unwilling to fix it. They removed it from CS.

The old version will work (as well as it ever did) provided you don’t do something silly like uninstalling 7 before installing CS.

And also if you reinstall 7 later, it will also work once more. —
