Hi,

I’m building a new computer soon and wondered what graphics card people find best for Photoshop. I’m not interested in gaming – just image editing and office applications.

I expect to be using an Athlon 64 CPU with 1GB of RAM. Don’t know which mobo yet.

Any suggestions or tips would be most welcome.

TIA

Derek

If you’ll be working at resolutions higher than 1600×1200, go for a Matrox Parhelia or P-series card. Otherwise it really doesn’t matter, all three of the major controller manufacturers (Nvidia, ATI and Matrox) will be roughly equivalent. In my experience Nvidia has the best, most stable and compatible drivers.

It really makes very little difference. The hardware 3D acceleration and rendering capabilities in the modern crop of video cards are not used by Photoshop in any way, and make no difference whatsoever in Photoshop’s performance.

Matrox is well-recommended as a 2D graphics card manufacturer. Stay away from the cutting-edge, high-end cards; not only will you waste money, but the driver software is often buggy.
