Where did you buy it? CS is over three years old now, CS2 came out in spring 2005.
Reasons to move? Patch tool, Vanishing point to name two reasons. As to your other post, for a complete PS "virgin" you could do worse then buy the CS or 2 for Dummies, this will get you moving around the program. As your skill level increases, Google for PS tutorials an excellent site can be found at http://www.pixel2life.com

IMHO no, not yet. PS (CS2) is a very powerful tool but like any other tool you need to learn to use it first. Since upgrades cost, too and since you can still upgrade to the next version (say skip PS CS2) I think you may as well spare the investment for now.

For learning purposes I like a combination of books and video training like available from here …

…. and / or …
http://www.katrineismann.com/
…. and there’s a lot to learn ahead for sure.

In any case take your time and keep in mind the latest and greatest piece of software is of no use without someone who can not only handle it but feeds it with stuff of some quality, too.

Cheers,
Juergen

Shame on you 😉
I’d do what Juergen suggested and get your head around CS and wait and see what CS3 brings. You would have bought the academic version at a discount but this will not prevent you from upgrading when the time comes. As to books, what about your local library? There are also some very good deals on books at Amazon, both discounted new and mint condition used. Learning PS is a bit like learning to swim, it’s all right reading about the strokes etc., but to succeed involves getting wet.
