Here is the scenario: Open a DNG file in Photoshop CS2, change the white balance, and click “open”. After a few seconds, the windows file manager shows “program not responding” for Photoshop. I have left the program in this state for up to 5 minutes just to see if it would come to life, it didn’t. The way out is to “end program”. If the same DNG file is opened again, the white balance will now show the value to which it was changed to before the hang. The problem does not appear to CR2 files which not have converted into DNG.

If the white balance is not changed, then ACR will properly open the file. This problem happens with both ACR_3.5 and ACR_3.6. ARC_3.4 and earlier does not appear to be affected. The DNG files generated by ACR_3.4, ACR_3.6 and DxO Optics all behave the same.
