I’ve just bought a used copy of CS. The file browser will not open any of my .nef files made by my NIKON D70. It will however open any .psd files made Elements 3. Is there a plugin available? Where does one obtain these?

Thanks
Joe

Hi Joe,

This is the most up-to-date Raw plugin for CS. The newer versions only work with CS2, but I’m fairly certain that the D70 was supported by this this version.

Hope this helps.

I’ve just bought a used copy of CS.

More as a warning to others: Make sure you get a "transfer of licence" form (available from Adobe) signed by the seller – and then register the software in your own name.

If you don’t, you will not be able to upgrade to the latest version – which you will need if you require the latest Camera Raw updates.

Any "used" software bought without this transfer is illegal

If you have CS – as I do – and a Nikon camera with PictureProject, you have the plugins available to view RAW format in Photoshop.

The files names are – Nikon NEF Plugin LE.8bi – and – Nikon YCC TIFF.8BI

These did NOT install (as the PP Reference Manual states – see below)into Photoshop CS and I needed to copy (not cut) them over to the the plugin directory in CS. Probably because I have a multi-partitioned drive and refused to let CS install where it wanted to, perhaps PictureProject didn’t find it where it expected it to be.

From the PictureProject 1.5 Reference Manual CD…

"Two Photoshop plug-ins are included with PictureProject: a Nikon NEF Plugin LE plug-in for viewing RAW images, and a Nikon YCC TIFF plug-in for viewing YCbCr-TIFF images (in Windows, these files have the extension “*.8bi”). These plug-ins can be used with Adobe Photoshop Elements version 2.0 or later and with Adobe Photoshop version 6.0 or later (Windows) or 7.0 or later (Macintosh)."

"Both plug-ins are copied to the PictureProject application folder when PictureProject is installed (in the Macintosh version, the plug-ins are copied to the “File formats” folder in the PictureProject application folder). If a copy of Photoshop is detected at installation, the plug-ins will also be copied to the Photoshop plug-ins folder. Users who install Photoshop after installing PictureProject should first uninstall PictureProject, and then reinstall PictureProject when installation of Photoshop is complete."

I hope this is of some help…
