I’m using Photoshop CS to lay out a digital photo album, and find myself repeatedly transforming images as I fine tune the layouts. Can anyone quantify how destructive the transform process is? Can it be done more than once per image, or should I keep going back to the original image? I don’t think Photoshop CS has a Place command like InDesign CS – is there another way to create on-the-fly sizing without degrading the image? Thanks!

As destructive as multiple applications of image size are

Once your layout is complete, you may want to replace every image and resize it only once or better yet, get CS2 and use Smart objects

There is a rounding error in the transform commands. In fact this error was used quite nicely by Russell Brown and his Shake, Rattle and Roll script that simply used different transforms over and over and over again to create some really interesting effects.

You want to use transform as little as possible. It is every bit as destructive as saving an image over and over and over as a JPG.
