No you don’t really need a third party plug-in for this kind of thing but that doesn’t necessarily mean you wouldn’t want one because doing this kind of thing isn’t really a standard straightforward process in Photoshop. The advantage of Mask Pro is that it provides simplified tools specifically designed for this purpose.
