If I open a RAW image from my Canon 20D (.CR2), the Calibrate tab shows the camera profile to be ACR 2.4. For that matter, LightRoom also shows the camera calibration to be ACR 2.4. I am a bit confused here since it is my understanding that CS2 uses the ACR 3.x profiles.

It depends what camera you are using. A later camera model may have been included in a later version of ACR, such as the current 3.6, but others were included in 2.4, such as the Canon 20D.
