My lighting effects have all disappeared. I have Adobe Photoshop 7.01, and use Windows 2000. I checked the FAQ and found something about them disappearing with XP, but I don’t have XP. I did make sure that indexing is on for the Lighting effects folder, but it already was.

Has it actually disappeared or is it just "greyed out"? (filter / render / lighting effects)
If it is the later, then it might be that you are trying to use it with a 16 bit image, as it only works with 8 bit images.
If it’s gone completely, then sorry, but I haven’t got a clue! Mick

What exactly is happening? Is it there in the Filters menu but the effects are grayed out or missing?

Try purging the clipboard.

Yes, the I go to Filters->Render->Lighting Effects, the box opens as usual but there is nothing there to choose. Everything in the styles and type of lighting dropdowns are missing. If you go to the dropdown it is just blank, it will open, just nothing there. I’ll try purging the clipboard, thanks.

Did you restart Photoshop after Purging Clipboard?

Ok, what type of file format is it in? 8bit, 16bit, index, rgb?

Its 8 bit, RGB, which is what mostly everything I use is. On a 16 bit RGB the render option under filters is greyed out. I thought of trying to resetting preferences but I find a general reset? I did restart Photoshop after purging the clipboard. I have no idea why this happened because I’ve had this program for years and never had it happen before. Thanks for trying to help.

EDIT: I found out how to reset, but now I go to Filters>Render>Lighting Effects and the Light Type dropdown has 3 choices but no style choices to go along with them.

Did you try enabling indexing on the Photoshop directory?

Indexing is enabled on the Photoshop directory.

Hi Sharon,

This may work, sometimes I think that allowing indexing on the photoshop folder is not enough, this is an XP fix which may work.
Go to C:\program files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop\Plug Ins\Filters Right click Lighting Styles folder, and allow indexing.
I hope it works for you.

Thanks, but indexing for the Lighting Styles folder was already allowed. I saw that on the FAQ and checked it, even though it was an XP fix. I have a Photoshop book, I didn’t think of checking it, maybe it’ll solve the problem for me. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Rather than resetting the Preferences file, have you actually tried deleting it ?
This site explains how, http://www.creativepro.com/story/feature/17478.html Good luck

I too am suffering from the MIA lighting style. I am using CS2 on Win 2K platform with the filter and style folders already checked for indexing. So what other factors am I overlooking?

I checked the FAQ.

Thanks in advance.

Go to the folder Roger pointed to above:

Go to C:\program files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop\Plug Ins\Filters Click Lighting Styles folder

Are there lighting styles in there?

Either way, reinstall. A reinstallation doesn’t reset any of your program preferences and will make sure things go where they’re supposed to. If that doesn’t work, follow the procedure in the faq to reset your preferences.

Peace,
Tony

I think I found the problem and have the solution. In the Resources and extra Disk (Not #2), look for the Goodies folder. In the Goodies folder, there are 3 folders. You need Photoshop CS2 folder. Inside that folder, look for Textures for Lighting Effects. Inside that look for the following files: AdobeP8M.md0, AdobeP8P.tb0, and AdobeP8T.tb0. These 3 files are missing in the Filter folder in Photoshop CS2. I don’t know if Photoshop 7 has a Goodies CD or DVD but check it out. There are other textures for use with the lighting effect. To restore the missing Lighting styles, simply copy the above 3 files to the folder where the Lighting Effect plugin is in. Just to be on the safe side, I also copied them to the lighting style folder. Then to check if it’s installed, just run Photoshop, open up a previous file or just simply create something in a new file and run the Lighting effect filter.

By the way, re-install does not work.

I finally got it to work on my system. Let me know if this works out for you.

YrbkMgr, I’ve reset preferences, I’ve reinstalled, none of that works. The Lighting styles are in the folder you indicated, but aren’t showing up. I have decided that it something to do with my computer, and not Photoshop, because resetting the preferences should have fixed it, and I’ve completely deleted photoshop and reinstalled. I have no clue what, because I’ve used 2000 and Photoshop for years now.

FranClodomar, I can’t find anything with goodies, and searched for those files, and can’t find them. Thanks for trying though!

Sharon,
Look in your installation disk for Photoshop 7.0. There is a similar folder called Goodies. Look for a folder named " Textures for Lighting Effects". In it are two files, PS7.md0 and PS7.tb0. Place those 2 in the same folder as your Lighting Effects plugin. To be on the safe side, also put those 2 in the Lighting Effect Style folder in the PlugIn folder on your system, (for Photoshop Only) Filters folder. That should work again.

I have Win 2K also and also have the Photoshop 7 installation disk.

Let me know if it works for you.

Fran

PS To all… if you got the installation disks, look in the goodies folder. The folder you want is called Textures for Lighting Effects. You can either copy the whole folder to the Plugins Filter folder or only the ones that strike your fancy.

Also you got to uncompress the Filter folder. Just wanted to make sure you understand that.

I still can’t find those files. I have the installation disk, but maybe because mine is an education version it is different than the one you have.

Sharon, I too have the educational version of Photoshop 7. It’s in the folder on the Photoshop installation disk. If you use explore, you will see the folder named "Goodies". It’s in there.
