Hello,

Would someone be able to describe the steps needed to remove black hand-writing from a photo so that it wouldn’t show anymore?

TIA Ric

Ric,

Clone or Patch tool, copy "good" over "bad".

Thanks for helping out Mike. My version doesn’t have those tools. Here’s a list of what I have:

Rectangular Marquee
Elliptical Marquee
Lasso Tool
Magic Wand Tool
Cropping Tool
Type Tool
Hand Tool
Zoom Tool
Paint Bucket Tool
Gradient Tool
Line Tool
Eyedropper Tool
Eraser Tool
Pencil Tool
Airbrush Tool
Paintbrush Tool
Rubber Stamp Tool
Smudge Tool
Blur/Sharpen Tool
Dodge/Burn Tool
Pen Tool

I tried the eyedropper, but the problem is that the writing extends over a gradient change in color. So choosing a foreground color is not effective with this tool.

Ric,

Of course, you are on version 3. Does your Rubber Stamp tool not have a Clone function? I would be very surprised if it didn’t, you must have some method of copying pixels from a source to a destination. Have you tried selecting the tool, Alt+clicking on an area of your image to "select" the pixels you want to copy and then paint over the areas you want to clone?

You really are making things difficult for yourself using something so old, if full blown PS is too expensive (it ‘s not cheap) have you thought of PS Elelments? This can be had for less than a tenth of the price of PS.

Thanks Mike! The Rubber Stamp has helped. It seems to be the best tool to accomplish this task.

The problem with upgrading PS to a newer version is that I’d have to upgrade my operating system and entire computer system as well. You see, Win 98 can only run older software. And there are several reasons why I am staying with my older system for the time being (they’re not money-related).

Ric,

You could still run something newer than 3 on a W98 Box, I’m sure I ran 6 maybe 7 on mine and there are still copies of these versions out there, arrrgghh, Jim lad 😉
