It should be simple I know!
I want the end photo to be in black and white with the eye colour showing. So, Im using the erasure to rub away the over the black and white layer to get the eye colour from the underneath color layer. But, the colour just isnt the same? when I click back to the colour layer, its a lovely green, but when I click back to the black and white the erased top layer, its just has a brown kind of tinge?

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Angie

Is your eraser working on 100%? Is the blend mode of the layer normal or other?

Angie:

Go back to square one.

Instead of duplicating the layer and desturating, just add a Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer.

Drop the "Saturation" slider to -100, making the image black and white, then "paint" on the Layer Mask using a hard edged brush in "normal" mode and at 100% Opacity, to show the eye colour through.

You’ll find this an easier (and corretable) method.

Hope it helps.

Chris.

There are other ways but these may depend upon other programs and, of course, erasing tends to be destructive.

Here is an example of a non-destructive effect that is eminently tweakable.

why is that less destructive?

undo, history, copy a layer. everything you do is destrucitve to some point or another, but unstill you save you can always step back.
