Do you have more than one drive on your system?

If yes, do you know which one is your scratch disk?

How much free space is there on it?

If it’s full, clean it up and delete some files

From what is just described, the scratch disk must be on C: (bad) and is nearly full.

Put the scratch disk on D: and move some stuff off your C: drive. You won’t get get any performance out of your machine if your system drive is choked!

Regardless of the problems with Photoshop you are approaching disaster with so little free space on Drive C.

Move all your data files on to Drive D. (And clean up all temp files!)

Photoshop should then start, and you can select Drive D as primary scratch in Edit> Preferences. This will keep it away from the Windows paging file.

Has PS crashed by any chance?

If so, a few time, many times?

I seem to recall that improper exits from PS may leave some residuals in scratch that are not subsequently removed.

Always close PS pleasantly and with great respect 🙂
