Have adobe CS and an Epson 950 (UK) / 960 (US)

Have perfectly (nearly) calibrated monitor used spider and viewed test images on other systems side by side comparison.

My prints are 1- 1.5 stops under exposed. Plugged in a mini HP primter and they came out right!!!

Have a paid for ICC profile for the Epson, shanged colours well but still under exposure.

Have used the PIM print matching software from Epson, still under exposed.

Must I scrap this printer? Can anyone help?

Thanks

Gary

You have paid for a profile, but how are you using it exactly? Tell us what kind of setup you are using. Only then people may be able to help you. You must be using the wrong settings (possibly with Photoshop AND Epson driver both making color corrections).

I set the icc profile in the print with preview dialogie box, perceptual as my intent and then in advanced on the printer window I set no colour adjustment.

When I did it from the laptop it was a straight send to print and only change the dpi but it was just as dark although colour was diffrent because of the profile.

Thanks for helping

Gary –

It seems that Epson printers (especially their Stylus Photo line) are a little tempermental with Photoshop. Here’s a workflow that I’ve found works well.

1. Under Edit/Preferences, set the RGB Working Space to Adobe RGB (1998)
2. After opening an image, go to Image/Mode/Assign Profile and choose the
working profile of Adobe RGB (1998). This overwrites any other profile assigned to your image, and matches the assigned Working Space profile to the image.
3. When you go to print, choose Print with Preview:
a. Source Space – Choose Document
b. Print Space – Assign Printer Color Management
c. Choose Print, and then Properties:
i. Choose the correct media type
ii. For mode, choose Custom, then Advanced
iii. Choose ICM. Then click OK until you are able to print

FWIW, a friend of mine has a HP all in one (printer/scanner/fax) that prints fine w/o any of the adjustments. Epson has provided a lot more variables (which causes the problems you and I have had to deal with – too much control).

I got the above workflow from www.computer-darkroom.com. One of the articles – Managing Colour When Printing – is where the basics of the above workflow came from.

Hope this helps!

When you paid for the profile, what setting did you use to print the image that was profiled? If it wasn’t done with "no colour adjustment", then the profile is invalid. If the profile target was printed with "no colour adjustment", make sure all of the other settings are the same as when you printed it, e.g. you haven’t turned on any "image optimisation" setting in the printer.
