I have created an animated .psd file in Adobe Image 2.0 and I want to save it as/export it as an animated .gif file. I have tried using the save as feature, export feature and cannot get the correct sequence to have the .gif file that I am seeking. I am using PS 5.5 with Windows XP Pro. Please advise.

Scot,

I believe by "Adobe Image" you’re referring to Image Ready, in which case once you’ve created the animation, just go the the File Menu and select "Save Optimized As", choosing the GIF format. The resulting GIF should be animated when opened in a browser.

Regards,

Daryl

Hello Daryl,

Thanks for the reply! I tried that and the only option I get is to "save optimized" as a JPEG file. I am not given a gif option. I am trying to save this in Adobe Image Ready.

There’s a palette called the Optimize palette. It’s a little confusing to have two things with such similar names, BUT that Optimize palette is where you can change the file type to gif and then Save Optimized As…

Try:

1 – in the frames viewer click the small triangle near right hand edge of the viewer

2 – choose "Optimise animation"

3 – File > Save Optimised As … " > make sure GIF appears as the file type

Let’s know if that works or not 🙂

I’m trying to create an animated GIF from PhotoShop. In the "Save for Web" menu, I can watch my GIF play and everything else looks right. I am able to save the GIF with no error messages, but my GIF file will not work. It automatically opens in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, but it just displayes the message, "Drawing Failed." I can save it as HTML and it will play, but the GIF won’t work. Please help me!

Try opening the GIF in IE. Just drag the icon into an IE window or File > Open it from Internet Explorer. (Feel free to use a decent browser instead.)

That worked Scott.

I cannot thank you enough! My deadline for getting this gif to a trade website is today, and it’s the first I’ve ever created (I usually only design for print, not web). You are an absolute life saver!

Thank you,

No problem. You’d already done all the work. You were just using the wrong program to view the GIF. Sad that the default viewer for GIF images in Windows can’t show animation. Not surprising, just sad.
