Secondary Rollovers and slices

I selected a slice then created a new over state in the rollovers pallete. I then went to the layers pallete and clicked an eye by the artwork I want to have appear when the mouse is over the button. The eye is grey compared to the other visible layers and when I preview the finished work – nothing happens with the rollover. Can anyone help me.

Christine,

In referring to your "finished work", is that the HTML file and associated images that define your rollover, or are you referring only to an image file? To observe the rollover effect, you would need to be previewing the HTML file itself, along with the requisite javascript code that creates the rollover action.

With regard to the greyed-out eye, are you saying you observe that when you have your "over" state selected? If so, I’m not sure why that would be.

I don’t know that my web page on building a rollover will be of any help, as there’s not much in the way of tutorial text that accompanies it, but maybe you’ll see something here that you’re missing. Note that I don’t use slices in my example, and the illustrations are for PS6 and IR3, although a similar concept applies to PS7/IR7. The page is at <http://jazzdiver.com/photoshop/rollover.htm>

Thanks Daryl. I’ll have a look at your site I need all the help I can get – web design is new to me.

The problem I was having was due to the required images being in a layer set, and I hadn’t selected to make the layer set visible which is why the eye for each image was grey. Its working now.
