Can I upgrade from 4 to 7?

I have a full version 4.0 (bundle) that came w/ my scanner years ago. Is
there drawbacks to upgrading it to 7.0 upgrade over purchasing the full
version? Can I then later upgrade PS7 to PS8 using upgrades?

Provided you have a license for Ver 4, I think you can upgrade directly to CS (Ver 8) for about $160.
