What kind of file is it? A gif?

Try this: From Photoshop go to "File > Open As" (not Open), and see if it will open now?

Try resetting the Preferences as detailed in the FAQs

You also might try a more descriptive title for your post, like "pen disabled in photoshop" It would help the rest of us.

David.

ImageReady is neat on GIFs especially if they are animated ones in which case be sure not to confuse layers with frames 🙂

Deebs you have succeeded where others have failed. I am totally confused. What on EARTH could layers/frames confusion have to do with the OP’s issue?

I’d post a screenshot but …, well here are the words "Adobe Photoshop: This is an animated GIF. You can only view one frame. Saving over this file will result in a loss of information. > OK"

Want more?

ImageReady is very neat with GIFs.

But that does not produce an error message stating:

Could not complete your request because of a program error

So the relevance of your comments are a bit over my head.

8) OK – one of the advantages of ImageReady with GIFs and especially animated GIFs has is that it allows the user to Save As a PSD file in which each frame appears on a separate layer.

These can be easily accessed, of course, in Photoshop as it has become a PSD file 🙂

Also in ImageReady the frames can be edited separately to the layers to produce the animation one may seek or aspires to create with or without optimisation.

These can further be exported as SWFs (tends to bulkiness though) with or without supporting html cpding. Or saved out as GIFs.

It really is very, very easy 🙂

So, there you are: PSDs, GIFs and SWFs all from the same set of data.

Please accept my apologies if my earlier post baffled anyone 🙂

Your post wasn’t baffling, Deebs.

It’s just that it had NOTHING to do with helping Trolo sort out an error message he’s been getting.

Oh, and Trolo…

PLEASE:

To help us understand what you’re writing it would be a great help if you used "proper" spelling (not "u" when you mean "you", etc.), capitalization (when you start a line with a lower case "i" it puts everything that follows it in italics, up to the next return/linebreak), and punctuation.

Not everyone understands SMS/texting language, so it really helps everyone if you write as well as you can.

Take it in your stride Trolo.

ImageReady is fantastic.

It takes data and gives you a choice of PSD, more GIF, SWF with html, SWF without html and, as you noticed, a way to bounce between PS and IR when stuff is needing changed.

That is a great creative choice in my opinion.

Deebs…

We all already know that ImageReady is good at what it does. That’s not connected in any way with the answer Trolo’s looking for.

Unless you have some insight about why Trolo is getting an error, please refrain from posting.

You’re just clouding the issue and adding noise to the thread.

Do you understand that?

Trolo,

What folks are asking you is have you deleted your Photoshop preference file??? That might be all that is required. See
http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.ef4a07f/1 for full details.

Deebs: see posts 9, 11, 15, 19 and… oh yes… and the OP.

Did you understand them?

We quite frankly don’t care whether you think Image Ready is the best thing since sliced haggis.

It’s got naff all to do with the ORIGINAL QUESTION!

And all you are doing is throwing sand into everybody’s eyes.

I think Deebs is real, and an actual human entity. Despite his Scottish heritage (I’m just joshing, mate!).

I like you, dude, and I think you’re certainly enthusiastic enough, it’s just that you ride your bicycle off into the ditchweeds sometimes when you think you’re helping.

The sight of that errant side trip can be amusing, but that doesn’t always equal helpful.

Trolo,

You say that you "did the preferences thing". It is a reasonably tricky task to do with the keyboard. So did you manually delete the preferences file, or did you receive a dialog asking you to confirm your resetting of the preferences (if you chose the keyboard route)?

This is a critical question. If you have not successfully reset your preferences, you are spinning your wheels. With that in mind, please confirm that you have actually deleted the file or received the confirmation dialog.

Thanks.

A dialog box will appear asking if you wish to delete the preferences file

Did the dialog appear?

i go to search and put "Adobe Photoshop X Prefs.psp" but nothing comes up

You have to have your search include hidden and system files/folders.

A mere observation: it is good to see the posts going on topic.

Can it be a dodgy GIF?

Maybe someone has changed the file extension?
