OS: Windows XP Home Edition SP2

When ever I’m using Imageready or CS2 with a program open like AIM, or Firefox CS2 starts acting weird and not responding.

Example 1: I press the ‘File’ tab and nothing happens, no window drops down, nothing.

Example 2: I try to close the program, and it won’t let me. Also, it won’t let me access anthing, the program just ‘lags’ and nothing will pop up, I can’t access task manager or the Start menu.

What is the problem?

Bob,

If you can easily reproduce the problem, try to open task manager (process list) first, then the other programme and PS.

You should be able to then see what’s in the way.

Do you use a utility called "Windows Blinds"? remove it.

Also realise that PS may seem frozen when a dialog window is off-screen and needs user intervention, thus not allowing to put focus on the PS interface.

The latter often happens after changing monitor setup (dual to single etc.)

A common mistake is to allocate too much memory to Photoshop (EDIT>PREFERENCES).

PS ships with this set to 55% – which is about right if you’ve 1.5 to 2GB installed RAM. Setting it too high will deprive the OS and other apps of resources and cause Windows to page out to Virtual Memory and often lock up the system.

1st reply: No, I don’t use WindowsBlinds.. And I haven’t changed from dual monitors

2nd Reply: I have 2GB of RAM, and when I try to go to preferences I get a beep and nothing happens.

I’d suggest deleting your preferences file (see the FAQ) as a first step, and if that doesn’t fix it, then do a repair installation. As a last resort, uninstall and reinstall from scratch.
