UI Under Windows Vista

Photoshop is not adhering to the UI settings under Windows Vista final retail release (which is now available to MSDN subscribers, lest someone thinks it is not out yet). Regardless of what color scheme is chosen under Windows, Photoshop will only use the default baby blue color scheme. This is happening with Photoshop version 9.0

Is there some way to force Photoshop to adhere to the Windows UI settings like all other professional software does?

For those who will want to respond that this is a trivial issue and color schemes do not matter, please reserve your opinions, as they are irrelevant to the technical question at hand.

Thank you.

Version 9 was made before Windows Vista. Maybe it can work, but I think it can’t be guaranteed.

Here are the (quoted from Adobe) system requirments:

-Intel® Xeon™, Xeon Dual, Intel Centrino™, or Pentium® III or 4 processor -Microsoft® Windows® 2000 with Service Pack 4, or Windows XP with Service Pack 1 or 2 -320MB of RAM (384MB recommended)
-650MB of available hard-disk space
-1,024×768 monitor resolution with 16-bit video card
-CD-ROM drive
-Internet or phone connection required for product activation

The non-trivial issue is that you are attempting to use CS2 on an unsupported OS. That is the crux of the technical issue at hand. There may or may not be a workaround. Exhibiting a bit less attitude might encourage anyone who has a solution to share it with you.

Hmmph…I was thinking the EXACT same thing, Ho. On *BOTH* points…<G>

Addressing only the technical point though, CS2’s UI hooks are going to make compatibility calls in Vista; unless Adobe issues a new set of DLLs, I would think the best that could be expected is the ‘limited’ UI mode of Vista.

Photoshop CS2 works in Vista, as long as all you’re interested in is image editing.

Photoshop is apparently doing something that the Vista UI code doesn’t agree with, and the resolution is that Vista forces the Photoshop window frame into Vista Basic mode. There is no user option to force compliance. This one is up to Adobe to fix, which they will probably do with a new release rather than a patch. (By the way, it’s not the only "older" application that does this.)

Unless you can give supporting evidence why this is not a trivial issue, I’d have to say that it’s trivial, or at best minor. It doesn’t rate as a major bug unless it breaks functionality. It doesn’t rate as critical unless it stops your business dead in its tracks and there’s no workaround.

unless it stops your business dead in its tracks and there’s no workaround.

And reverting to a supported operating system is a valid workaround.

As Diane says, older applications doing this is quite common. I have seen a lot of applications which won’t use the XP UI styles.

Personally I am glad to see it revert to Vista Basic…First thing I do with the Windows OS is to turn off all of the eyecandy so that I get better performance out of the application…not shiny happy buttons!

Areo Glass…what a waste of resources…

Ok, I’ll dive in.

I love Vista, absolutely adore Aero and am suitably impressed by the creative energies in linking hardware, firmware and software to produce such an awesome OS.

The dreams and aspirations (fast internet included) of those hazy days pre-Windows 95 seem to be converging on a great user experience at last.

The only shame?

It has taken more than ten years to do so?
