I figured out how to make a word appear to be on a sphere using 3D Transform about an hour ago, but now I cannot reproduce the effect for another word. Here is my process:

I selected Layer > Type > Convert to shape > then Filter > Render > 3D Transform.

However, now I can no longer select 3D Transform, it is grayed out. Am I missing a step that I forgot? Originally, once I selected 3D Transform, it prompted me to rasterize the type. Since I can’t select 3D Transform any longer, I tried rasterizing the type manually by going to Layer > Rasterize > Type. But I still cannot select 3D Transform.

Can anyone help? Thanks!

Perhaps you need to make a selection on the layer before running the filter?

3d transform doesn’t work on CMYK documents. Make sure your image is in RGB.

I forgot – I did change the mode to CMYK while I was working! I changed it back to RGB and now I can use the transform filter again. Thanks a lot!

You can actually run 3D transform on a CMYK document…run it on each individual channel at the same settings(switch channels +Control+F) instead of a layer….Ancient Photoshop Secret…If the filter is greyed out when you are in CMYK, try running it in Channels as Photoshop reads channels as greyscale images.

If you’re using CS2, you might like the simplicity of Warp under the Edit|Transform menu. With CS2 they added more flexability to Text Warp, although it now warps anything, not just text. If you rasterize your text, you might find it quite useful. Or not, just thought I’d mention it.
