A friend with creative suite on windows has been told she cannot upgrade photoshop to CS2 unless she upgrades the entire CS suite of programs – is that true?

It is true. The suite of programs is a different license than that of each individual piece of software. Once you are on the Suite path of licensing I believe you have to stay on that path. The suite cannot be used for upgrading individual programs. You can always choose to buy the full version of Photoshop and then get future upgrades from that license path.

I was able to upgrade only Photoshop from the CS suite to PSII. However, I had to call adobe, where the rep walked me through the upgrade. wrote in message

However, upgrading the suite is much cheaper than upgrading each point product individually…and with the new CS2.3 upgrade you get Dreamweaver instead of GoLive…

Assuming of course that you *want* to upgrade more than one component of the suite, when the updates are released.

The initial outlay for the Suite is very attractive compared to buying some or all the components individually.

The tradeoff is that you’re tied to upgrading the entire suite for each future upgrade cycle.

a) She can upgrade Photoshop to Photoshop CS2. And continue to upgrade Photopshop alone in future upgrade cycles.

b) Or she can upgrade Photoshop to Creative Suite 2 (or Creative Suite 2.3).

If she opts for b) then she has to upgrade the entire Suite for future upgrade cycles.
