Since the original sky is white, it would be hard to add color to it; I would just mask out the white sky and replace it with a blue sky. This would involve some kind of selection technique, so look into those; once you have selected the sky (or selected the foreground, whatever is easier), then you can go about masking and replacing.

If you like, you can post a link to the actual image (you can use Pixentral <http://www.pixentral.com/>) and get specific pointers.

You could try a blue to transparent gradient, but it depends how realistic you want to get.

Oscarpro, masking is used to make changes to parts of your photo. if you want to make a color change to your photo, you could just open color balance and do it, or you can apply what is called a color balance adjustment layer.with that you can infinitely adjust the amount of color balance that you applied to the photo. in other words,if you add a lot of blue and later in your session decide its too blue, you use a layer mask to get rid of some of the blue in your adjustment layer. its a very worthwhile technique to learn.

After reading PS, more reading, I’m getting more confused. I beleive robin & I need more detailed instruction. Right from the selection process to the creating a layer.
I’m I correct in saying, that after selecting the area of the image and coloring it, I save the selection? This creates an alpha channel in the channel palette.
Press ALT key & click on the alpha channel, the layer option box opens and I rename it. Hit OK. My layer should be done.
If I want to make a color balance adjustment layer, do I do it now?

Selections are saved as channels. You only need to save it if you think you’ll need it again later

In my opinion, many times you dont even need to make a selection when using adjustment layers, because once you apply the mask, you only need to paint in the things you want changed. using a soft edged brush can be very helpful at the border areas.
