I hope someone can help. Knockout 2 was working fine until today, when I clicked on it in the Filters Menu. After PS reduced and while at the desktop, a small window popped up:

"The system contains low memory"

Clicking that window off just returned me to PS. I’m running CS version of PS. With 3GB of ram on win xp pro, I am at a bit of a loss.

About two weeks ago I had need to re-install PS. Does anyone know if there is an order to be followed installing PS and plugins? At the moment my cd/dvd burner/reader is kaput, so I can’t even try a new install until that’s fixed. I’m hoping there may be a setting or work-around. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Is that the exact text of the error message?
And was knockout 2 running at the time?
What icon was displayed in the error dialog?

Chris:

Thanks for the quick response. The error message window is small, with "Knockout 2" in the title box, there is a yellow triangle containing a bold "!" and the exact words:

"The system contains low memory"

The title bar contains the white X with red background in the upper RH corner, and there is a window closure button at the bottom of the display field of the error window. There are no other icons than what I have described here.

When Knockout starts to boot, it minimizes PS and displays my desktop and icons for a fraction of a minute. Normally, it then boots into the Knockout GUI with the chosen working layer ready and at my disposal. It’s while the desktop is displayed that the error message appears. It must have been in the process of booting Knockout at that time, but it never did boot up. This was the first time I tried Knockout since I re-installed PS about 2 weeks ago.

Maybe this is my punishment for buying all that "low memory" instead of some good ole "high memory" 🙂

Ok, then you need to contact the makers of Knockout 2 to get it resolved.

To any others who may be using Knockout. My problem was caused by the fact that I had the scratch disk in Knockout set to an external hard drive that was nearly full. I am including this note in the event there may be someone else who might run into the same error message. The error message "The system contains low memory" trapped me in a rut thinking only about RAM, not virtual memory or swap disks. I was able to change the scratch disk designation by editing the Knockout2.ini file with Notepad. It’s just a line item in the ini file. I don’t know where or how I originally set it, but there it was in the ini file.
Your response, Chris Cox, IS appreciated. Thanks much for taking the time! JJ
