Hello Photoshop fans,

Some time ago I was offered Photoshop 7.0. for my birthday. Unfortunately I have had very little time to study all the features until now. I realize it is a very powerful tool, and I am ashamed that I know so little on how to use it. I have a scanner and a digital camera and I use Photoshop to capture and process my pictures.

My knowledge is currently limited to importing a picture from the scanner and the camera, extracting a rectangle from the original, resizing the picture and saving it in various formats with various grades of quality. I have no clue what "layers", "channels" and "paths" are.

I would like to improve this knowledge a little and I am looking for a web site or a tutorial with the basics. I really need on ly the basics, because I will have no time to understand all the details. I am not a prodesional and don’t intend to become one.
Any advice on a good basic site/tutorial?

One of the reasons why I feel the need for more Photoshop knowledge is that I want to replace some objects with a color existing somewhere in the picture background (ground, sky, furniture…) For example I would like to replace a crane in the landscape by the sky colour, or to remove a person from a picture.
I though I would intuitively find the options (I am used to computers and various applications) but I couldn’t find out this one. Any advice where I can get this kind of information?

Thanks.

Jean

A Google search on Photoshop Basics yielded this and lots of others. This is a little out of date but the basics have not changed that much version to version. New features are added and key commands sometimes change, but the program remains the same at its core.

Look for tutorials on removing backgrounds, selecting, extract, masking, cloning and so on. There are tons of Photoshop tutorials. Search around the web and maybe buy a book or two.
