Photoshop "unexpectedly quits" during monitor sleep

I’m using PS 7.0.1 on a PowerMac DP 1.42 GHz and 512 MB RAM (yes, more RAM is planned). On two consecutive mornings, when I wake the monitor from "sleep" I’ve been greeted by a message that Photoshop had "unexpectedly quit". This evidently has happened while the monitor was in sleep mode although the computer itself was not asleep (i.e., was set to "never" sleep). My Photoshop sessions preceeding these overnight periods (i.e., before monitor sleep) seemed normal, although admittedly there were a large number of images (>12) kept open– each file being 10 to 40 MB.

I’ve been attempting to upgrade the RAM, but presently I’m using only the original 512 MB because of problems with defective (upgrade) DIMMs. Is it likely that my problem with Photoshop instability is simply a matter of insufficient RAM? If so, why would the program quit during a period of non-use? My system (OS X 10.2.4) has been very stable, otherwise.

That was a known bug in MacOS 10.2, I believe it is fixed in 10.2.6 (and 10.3 of course).

Hmm, I thought that bug involved computer sleep (my problem ocurred during monitor sleep). Anyway…I had been putting off an OS upgrade (my G4 was recently delivered with the 10.2.4 version), so this is reason enough to go ahead and move up to 10.2.8 (I’m gonna let Panther "evolve" a bit longer). Thanks.

Panther has been rock solid here.
And easier to navigate.
Having already been through those steps…
I wouldn’t bother with 10.2.8
